Iris Place

Eugene, Oregon

Client: St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County

Programs: Playground, Community Garden, Bike Repair Station, Stormwater Interperative Plaques and Landscaping

Completion: 2021

Dougherty Landscape Architects designed the site and landscape for Iris Place, a 53-unit affordable housing community developed by St. Vincent de Paul of Lane County and designed by BDA Architects. The landscape supports a vibrant, family-friendly environment while promoting sustainability and resilience.

Shared outdoor amenities include community gardens, a play structure, and gathering spaces that encourage connection among residents. A bike repair station facilitates active transportation, while walkways and plantings create a safe, welcoming setting for families.

The landscape features a diverse palette of native plants and integrated rain gardens that manage 100% of on-site stormwater through infiltration. These sustainable strategies contributed to the project achieving Earth Advantage Platinum certification. Thoughtful site design supports the development’s broader goals of environmental stewardship, community well-being, and long-term affordability.
